Have you been doing your research into Super Bowl betting 2025? Have you been doing your research only into the 2024-2025 season? That makes a lot of sense, of course – you’re going to want to be up on that to bet the big game. However, there’s so much more that goes into it than that. Knowing the history of the game as well as its betting can help you to be better prepared.
That’s not to say looking at the past exclusively will provide you with today’s answers. After all, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Terry Bradshaw will all be, in one way or another, analyzing or calling the game – not playing it. But, having more information always beats having less. These stats and facts below might give you just a bit of an edge, even a small one, when it comes to 2025 – and, as you may know, even a little edge can make a big difference.
More Evenly Matched Than You Might Think
There have been so many dynasties in Super Bowl history. The Steelers, the 49ers, the Cowboys, the Patriots – and many others that very well may claim that mantle. It’s natural to think of the big game as one that’s been dominated by one side or another. However, that’s not really the case.
Indeed, the two conferences are, going into Super Bowl 59, 29-29 “straight up.” That means, without looking into the point spread, they’re tied. Through 58 games, it’s a literal, actual coin flip. Both conferences have gone on big runs of wins (look at the NFC in the 80s and 90s) but they’ve managed to even it out.
Speaking of “even,” even if you go with “against the spread,” the conferences are… tied. Instead of being 29 and 29, they’re 28-28-2. That’s just how close this is.
If nothing else, this shows a couple things: one, just how good handicappers are at their jobs. And, two, just how difficult it can be to pick the winners of these games. These really are two teams that have been through a gauntlet. That’s particularly true in our modern era of only one team per conference getting a bye.
Defense Wins Championships: for Teams and Bettors
You’ve heard the phrase “defense wins championships” many times. It may not seem that way, particularly now. After all, we live in the era of Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and the like. However, in recent times, defense has meant more than you might think.
One place you absolutely can see the impact of defense on the game: the over/under. Four of the last five Super Bowls have hit the under. That means that, when the over/under was set, in four of the last five, it went “under.” That doesn’t mean that it’s going to be “under” this year.
But, it does mean, as you may have found in your research, that offense is down many times. Defenses may be hamstrung by the rules in certain circumstances but defensive players are better than ever.
Even in games where there is high scoring, they’re close games. That means defense has a significant impact. Twelve of the last twenty Super Bowls have been one-score affairs. That’s made for exciting games, yes, but it also underscores, yet again, just how much defense matters.
In-Game Betting? Watch Which Team Scores First
So many places offer in-game betting now, betting as the game goes on. One of the best parts of in-game betting is it rewards bettors who really understand and can feel the momentum of a game.
Something to keep in mind in regards to this: the team that scores first has won a strong majority of Super Bowls. 37 Super Bowls have been won by the team that scores first. That doesn’t mean that it’s impossible for teams to come back (and you can probably think of many improbable Super Bowl comebacks off of the top of your head) but it’s not something that always happens.
Player Props: Who Scores First?
“Who scores first?” That’s one of the most popular player prop bets. It’s a fun one and usually you know who’s gotten it by the first quarter, etc. Something to keep in mind: wide receivers have scored first in 25 Super Bowls. Sure, running backs have had their share, too. But, wide receivers are often the player who scores first.
Super Bowl Betting 2025 and Later
The past may not predict the future but the past is prologue. The past can tell us something, even in part, about what is to come. The big game is closer than you think. Obviously, you’re going to want to do your research so that you’re prepared for the two teams, their players, etc.
That said, a bit of info about the past can’t hurt. To bet the game how you want to bet it, come to our site today.
