Tyson vs. Paul: A Clash of Eras and Expectations

Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul. Say that to someone even one year ago and it sounds absolutely crazy. Today, however, it’s one of those sporting events that more people than you might realize are looking forward to. One of the all time greatest boxers in his prime (many, many years after his prime) against someone who came up through social media, yes, but is 10-7, with seven wins by knockout (including his last four). You can find many ways to bet this fight here at BetNow.

Where the Line Stands Now

As of this writing, the favorite is Paul. Some of you may read that and think: “What? That’s impossible. How could he be the favorite over Tyson? I saw Tyson destroy so many great fighters.” Yes, “saw” is the proper word, because that all happened in the past.

Tyson was one of the most fearsome fighters boxing ever saw. He’s also 31 years older than Jake Paul. Moreover, Tyson hasn’t been in a professional fight in 19 years. So, essentially, the odds are not good that Paul ever actually saw, in his lifetime, Tyson fight someone live.

We have, at the moment this was written, Paul as the -280 favorite with Tyson coming in at +215. That makes Paul the favorite, yes, but it doesn’t make him an overwhelming favorite. Indeed, Tyson very well could pull this out.

Moreover, we have the over/under of this fight set at 5.5 rounds. So, with that bet, you’re either going with the fight lasting less than five rounds or over five rounds.

Where is the Fight?

The fight will be on Friday, November 15th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. If that location sounds familiar, there’s a reason for that: the Dallas Cowboys play there. It’s one of the largest stadiums in all of the country. Now, that doesn’t mean that more than 100,000 people will be there to see this fight. But, it does mean that anyone who’s inclined to simply laugh this off as another YouTuber stunt is likely to be surprised.

The main card is expected to go off around 8 PM Eastern, meaning that the fight might be a bit earlier than many think. That makes it all the more imperative that, if you’re going to get a bet down on this fight, you do so earlier.

Other fights on other nights, they might be later in the evening. So, at those times, you could be able to bet on them later. Not this fight. Bet before 8 PM Eastern (Five Pacific) to be able to get your bet in on time.

How is This Fight Different From Other Fights?

Not to answer a question with a question, but, where would you like to start? This fight isn’t for any belt, it’s not in any particular weight class, or anything of that nature. But, it’s a far bigger deal to many people. For starters, unlike all too many of the boxing matches that go on these days, both of these men are actual household names.

Jake Paul is one of the world’s most famous YouTubers. With millions of subscribers all over the world, if he isn’t a household name in your household he’s a household name in your neighbor’s, in the folks’ down the street’s house, etc.

Mike Tyson, on the other hand, has been a household name for almost forty years at this point. One of the most fearsome men on the planet in his heyday (and, frankly, for many days after that), Tyson very well may have been the single hardest puncher the world of professional fighting has ever seen.

This fight is also unique in that it has a kind of dreamy, fantasy feel to it. If you’ve ever been at the end of a bar or in a dorm room conversation with others, it’s entirely possible that someone has brought up a conversation of: “I bet this guy could beat up that guy.”

This is just one of those conversations come to real life. In fact, this fight is kind of an example of a very particular fantasy. How many of us have ever watched the best fighter in the world and thought: “I bet I could take him?” This is that, only for real.

Mike Tyson started fighting when he was very young. Jake Paul, on the other hand, didn’t come into fighting until later. There’s something very appealing about the idea that anyone could just, in their 20s, decide: “you know, I could be a pro fighter” and then do it. This speaks to that.

This fight is also different from others in that it’s going to be a bit shorter. This is not one of those 12 round fights that you may be used to. Instead, this one is scheduled for just eight rounds. In fact, it’s eight rounds that last two minutes a piece. What we’re saying is: do not expect this fight to last for hours, even if it goes to a decision. This fight is going to be short and sweet or, at least, short.

What Else Can I Bet on at BetNow?

This fight, however it goes, is just one of the many, many examples of fighting that we offer here at BetNow. You can find plenty of different fights to bet on, all across the world of fighting. For example, just that night alone, we also offer bets for the “Undisputed Women’s Junior Welterweight Championship,” which will see Amanda Serrano square off against Katie Taylor. Amanda is a heavy favorite in that one (with odds of -700) but that could be a good fight all of the same.

Beyond that, we also offer plenty of bets on UFC and other contact sports. Indeed, if there’s a big fight going on somewhere, you can find a bet for it here at BetNow.

That said, if there’s a fight that isn’t all that big going on somewhere, you can find a bet on that, too. Good luck to the fighters and to you in your betting!
