What Were the Last 10 Super Bowl Scores (And What They Tell Us)

The Chiefs are in the Super Bowl again. The Eagles are in the Super Bowl again. The last few championship games have had plenty of repeat teams. Here at BetNow, we always advocate that betting involves plenty of research. Even the research that seems like it may not be able to help can yield some data, some pointers, that can help you to figure out what the right bets are for you this year.

Below are the last ten Super Bowls, leading up to the Eagles and Chiefs. Along the way, we’ll touch on some pointers you can take from each game. We’ll have all of the ways that you’ll want to bet on what could be an instant classic.

Super Bowl 49

Sometimes, a Super Bowl is remembered best (or perhaps only) for a single play. But, a lot gets forgotten that decides the outcome. When New England beat Seattle in 49 from Phoenix, everyone remembers Russell Wilson not handing the ball off but throwing an interception on what would have been an all-time game winning drive.

“Go with the safer play” is certainly something you could take from this one. If Seattle had, they very well may have a second ring.

Super Bowl 50

Defense still wins championships. Yes, this Broncos team, the one that beat Carolina by two touchdowns, was Peyton Manning’s last ride. But, that Denver defense was suffocating. The Panthers were never really able to get their offense going with Cam Newton. Even in our modern era of big time offenses, defenses can get the job done.

Super Bowl 51

Again, go with the safe play. When New England beat Atlanta 34 to 28, everyone remembers the greatest comeback ever, sure. But, the key is that Atlanta didn’t just take knees, run clock, etc. They kept trying to move the ball. And, when that didn’t work, they gave the ball back to the Pats.

Super Bowl 52

Sometimes, the best roster can beat the best player. That’s a potential takeaway from the game where the Eagles beat Brady and the Pats 41-33. Sure, the Pats were good at Brady was at his best. But, that Eagles roster was stacked top to bottom. They outlasted the Pats, getting pressure when they had to.

Super Bowl 53

The best defense can stop just about anything else. New England beat LA in Super Bowl 53 13-3. The lowest scoring Super Bowl ever, the game was a defensive struggle throughout. Yes, LA had maybe the greatest defensive player ever in Aaron Donald, but the Pats were able to get just enough offense to take it home.

Super Bowl 54

The beginning of Mahomes’ dominance showed how the Chiefs can come back when trailing on anyone. The Chiefs beat the 49ers 31 to 20 in this Super Bowl. But,despite the 10 point margin, they were being, and behind significantly, for much of this game.

Super Bowl 55

Defense… It still matters. We’ve said that a few times in this blog but it’s absolutely true. Brady met Mahomes in a Super Bowl where, frankly, Mahomes didn’t have the guys around him. The Chiefs’ O line was in shambles and the Bucs defense has never been better. Brady took the smart play every time and they blew out the Chiefs, 31-9.

Super Bowl 56

Stars on defense can maybe overcome stars on offense. That’s what happened when the Rams bested the Bengals 23 to 20 from Los Angeles. The Rams had Aaron Donald, but the Bengals had Chase, Burrow, and Tee Higgins. If Burrow sees that open player on his final fourth down throw, maybe this goes a different way, but there was just too much pressure.

Super Bowl 57

This year’s Super Bowl is a rematch of this one, and it was an even fight. The Eagles came out on the short end, losing to Kansas City 38 to 35.  Really, this game came down to who was going to have the ball last. That was the Chiefs and, yes, while they got a big penalty on that drive, it was a back and forth affair. The takeaway might be: this is going to be a close game.

Super Bowl 58

Last year’s Super Bowl was a repeat of a recent Super Bowl, but it followed a similar script. Just as in the previous one, the Kansas City Chiefs trailed the Niners, but ultimately won, this time, 25-22. This was the second one to go to overtime.

Super Bowl 59 – Upcoming

Defense matters. It’s hard to bet against Mahomes. But, if you have a good running game and are stout on D, you can beat anybody. Those are some narratives you can take from these games. What do you believe is going to happen? You can bet at sports here at BetNow. Good luck!
